SOME HISTORY...

The prospectus for the Balranald District Ex-Servicemen’s Memorial Club of 1950 states the proposed clubrooms were to be constructed of red brick at an estimated cost of 8,500 pounds by the Returned Soldiers’ League who had purchased the old variety hall to develop as a licensed Club.

The old variety hall was used for a skating rink at the time, as well as for silent pictures and parties/dances/balls etc. The old hall today forms the main bar and the Members’ lounge area.

The Club was officially opened on 17th January 1955. Many extensions have been carried out by the Board of Directors since the official opening:

  • 1957 – Governor of NSW Lt. General E.W. Woodward opened the remodelled front section of the Club
  • March 1969 – Governor of NSW Sir A. Roden Cutler opened the new modern ladies lounge
  • November 1975 – the Auditorium was opened and an excellent new dining room, the Duryea Dining Room, was established and dedicated to long serving president Jack Duryea.
  • August 1957 – a very successful bowling green was established
  • 1973 – a second bowling green was completed
